We are doing our second independent novel of the school year. Students have been given opportunity to go to the library for a novel while others elected to bring a novel from home. I have posted audio and PDF files as well as other resources on Google Classroom for students. We are reading the novel in class and students are being asked to read aloud on occasion. Just want to reiterate to everyone that ZOOM Meetings will continue to take place twice a week: Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 1:00 PM for Grade 9's. Work will continue to be assigned via Google Classroom. We just finished 'Romeo and Juliet' in grade 9. All assigned work that students attempt will be graded. Should a student's average remain the same or improve it will be entered in PowerSchool. Should the mark decrease one's average it will not be entered. Please keep in mind that learning will continue and the curriculum in the English course will be covered. The goal for doing such is to give each student every advantage as they transition into the next grade. A number of students have been active and participating in both the video conferencing sessions and completing assigned work via Google Classroom. Some students have not been active on video conferencing but are doing assigned work on Google Classroom. Both are acceptable and beneficial for students. However, if a student is not participating in any form of educational activity - for example the core subjects (math, science, English, social studies, French) they may put themselves at a disadvantage: 1) not participating results in student not being able to improve one's average 2) students at risk of failing or currently not passing have an opportunity to do assignments to improve one's mark. There are students who need to engage and they are not. Parents are urged to check with their child(ren) to ensure they are engaged and active with their academics.
