Class 8 - 4 will write in room 220 (Quann) [unless student receives accommodations then an IRT teacher will advise].t
Please be advised that students must remain in the examination room for the entire two (2) hours. Hence, bring a novel or some reading material in the event you finish earlier (no electronic devices will be allowed at student's desks). Should student elect not to remain in school after their scheduled exam please have a parent email the homeroom teacher indicating such. Same for the week following.

1. Letter to the Prime Minister on a Global Issue. This has to be a business letter following the template from p. 372 in the Language Arts Survival Guide we referenced in class.
2. Short Story 'Two Islands' - students assigned two questions to be done in their English exercise books and a third question that required a poster with a message or epitaph.
3. Child Slavery Protester Murdered - we read this story and answered questions on Iqbal - the young victim.
4. Independent novels have been read by 'most' students followed by a poster (hard copy or electronic). Students have been presenting these posters in class. Google Classroom has all the pertinent details and handouts associated with this assignment.
5. Students had to view and observe the picture on page 1 in their Literacy 8 text and answer questions on a sheet given to them. The theme was global citizenship. |

Assigned By: Craig Squires | Welcome to Mr. Squires' English Language Arts (ELA) Class
The grade 8 ELA course will require effort, organization, and homework. September outcomes:
1. Students should have a novel by now. We started 'reading Fridays' last week and will continue for the month of September and first week of October. Students need to bring a novel to class on Fridays and read. Many students will read outside this time period and that is urged. At the end of this 4 week period students will have to design a story map and present in class.
2. Global Citizen unit in the textbook. We will do a series of stories/essays/poems on this theme followed by a poster activity and then a test.
Please note that once students have their Computer Access Acceptance Sheets turned into the HR teacher they will get access to school computers. All students will be expected to use Google Classroom this year. This is where the teacher will post all assignments, resource material and other pertinent materials. |
