Science Assigned By: Nathalie Brunet | Period 3 Science Online was Tuesday May 19. Students were given a choice of two labs to work on, both posted on Google Classroom - one a hands-on IRL activity to compare the solubility of different substances in water, oil, and dish soap. The other is a virtual lab on the effect of temperature on solubility.
Besides the two labs students can also continue Review Assignment Sc7.3.2 posted in Google Classroom. A reminder that all assignments are optional for extra credit.

We did not have science today, but this is to let you know that the progress timeline for the science fair project has been adjusted in view of time missed, though the date of final presentations will remain the same.
Tomorrow students will have a final period to research project ideas and discuss with me.
The new timeline is:
- Discuss project idea with teacher and submit on Google Classroom: by Friday January 31.
- Complete written experimental plan (either on paper in project booklet, or online through Google Classroom) by Friday February 7.
- Experimental work: aim to complete by Wednesday February 19, to allow time to assemble Display Board and prepare for oral presentation.
- In-class oral presentations begin Monday February 24.
All grade 7 students must complete a science fair project, either in pairs or individually, and present their project orally in class beginning on February 24. Participation in the MDJH School Science Fair (March 12, 1:00 to 5:00) is optional but highly encouraged, with a 5% bonus marks.

Quiz Sc7.1.1 that was initially announced for Monday September 30 has been rescheduled to Tuesday October 1 because of the social studies field trip.
We also discussed climate change and the protest planned for this Friday. The NLESD has issued a directive to principals that parents/guardians of students planning to participate should provide the school with a permission for the absence. The protest starts at 11:00 at the clock tower at MUN. (see https://vocm.com/2019/09/21/students-across-province-gearing-up-for-global-climate-strikes/)
Next science class I will spend a period teaching in more depth about climate change and what needs to be done about it.
