Science Assigned to Class: 7-1 (110A)	Hello Everyone, I hope you all got out to enjoy the nice sunshine over the past few days, it is not so nice here today, although the rain is going to melt some of that leftover snow! YAY! There is a new Google Classroom for all the grade 7 science students in MDJH. The joining code has been sent to you and your parent's email. Please go join - I see some of you already have, but I would really like to see all of you there. There are some activities being posted in there to keep you in the loop and keep your brains working while we are on this extended break. Nothing you do will be graded, so no pressure! Go on in and have a look, see what your classmates have said and put a comment in yourself. New stuff is being posted there all the time. Science Assigned to Class: 7-1 (110A)	Students have all submitted their science projects and we are presenting in class now. The school science fair will be held on March 12. It will start during school in the afternoon and continue after school. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the school science fair and as an incentive, they will get 5 extra marks on their project just for being there! Students will need to stay for the first round of judging at least, which will end at about 3:30. Please register for the fair using this form.

Science Assigned to Class: 7-1 (110A)	Students were introduced to science projects during class on January 30 and 31. We spent the classes on sciencebuddies.org looking for ideas and preparing their project idea and early project plan (which are due on Monday, February 3.) All files and instructions can be found in Google Classroom. The final project is due on March 3 the school science fair will be held on March 12. Grade 7 students are required to complete a science project. They are not required to participate in the school fair, however, they are strongly encouraged to attend and if they do, they will get a 5 mark bonus.

Students have been working on the review sheet that was given out on Tuesday. Homework on Tuesday night was all of the fill ins. Homework on Wednesday night was the chapter 4 questions. Science Assigned to Class: 7-1(218)	The Chapter 5 quiz has been set for Wednesday, January 25th, Day 7. A copy of the review sheet can be found in the Notes and Worksheets section of my website. For the Science Project, all materials can be found in Google Classroom. All students have usernames and passwords and are able to log in to this from home. Here is the lowdown.... First, students were to speak to me about their project idea and then fill out a form in Google Classroom called 'Science Fair Topic.' That was due to be submitted on Monday, January 16. Second, students are to fill out the document in Google Classroom called Science Project Plans - Either the Project Plan Model or the Project Plan Experiment, depending on the type of project they are doing. Most students have started doing this already - it can be accessed directly from Google Classroom. This is due on Monday, January 23. Then they need to start working on their project and start filling out the Student Project Guide. This part will be due with the rest of their project at the end of February. If students have questions, they can always come see me in the library during recess or lunch and there is a help session put on by the Science Department teachers during Day 1 and Day 3 at lunch in room 125.

In case of bad weather and school is cancelled, students should expect to do the test during our first class back, which would be Tuesday (no science on Day 7, Friday, and Monday is a holiday). Students will need to bring their books home with them to study. If not, our textbook can be found online but you will need a username and a password in order to access it. Science Assigned to Class: 8-2(214)	The quiz for Chapter 8 will be held on Tuesday, January 20th. The Science Fair workbooklet was handed out yesterday in class. We have already discussed what it entailed and what the due dates were. Students need to have a plan in place for their project asap and it should be well under way by the end of January. This is an at-home assignment that is worth 10% of the student's entire grade for the year. Participation in the school fair is optional; but students will receive an extra 5 % for attending the fair. I will be answering questions and discussing progress of these assignments in class but students will not be given time to work on them in class. Today I gave out an in-class open book assignment on density. The answers can be found in the documents section of my website http://www.bethpowerhomework.weebly.com . I have posted a Chapter 8 review sheet as well. We have recently upgraded to a newer version of Word, so if you have difficulty opening these files, please let me know. Science Assigned to Class: 8-2(214)	Permission slips for our trip to the Brother Brennan Centre next week were given out to students today. Please fill them out and return them ASAP. We are leaving from school at 9:00 on Wednesday (November 26th) and coming back in the evening (6:30ish) on Thursday the 27th. The cost for this overnight camping trip is $68 per student and this covers transportation, food and lodging. Students have also been given a packing checklist. Highlights include: bringing warm clothing, waterproof footwear and bedding, and not bringing electronics, hair straighteners, iPads, or electronic games. Cameras are ok, but cell phone coverage is analog so your battery will not last long - best to use airplane mode if you use your phone as a camera. This trip is part of our curriculum, and promises to be a really great time. More information about the centre's facilities can be found on the Brother Brennan Centre website. Any questions can be sent to (me). Test is still a go for tomorrow (Wednesday, November 19). Good luck with the study.

Science Assigned to Class: 8-5(109C)	The Experimental or Model plan was due last Friday and many students have not passed it in yet. The project must be completely finished, passed in, and ready to present on March 3. Today, while I was consulting with students on their science fair projects, I asked students to read pages 214-223 and complete questions pg. 216 q. 1-3, pg. 221 q. 1-3, and pg. 227 q.7. These must be completed for homework.

This past week, we worked on a few worksheets for review. A definitions worksheet for the whole unit, When Light Strikes, a worksheet on Reflection Ray Diagrams and another called Refraction: Light Changes Direction. All worksheets can be found on my homework page. Please Note that the next section of the Science Fair workbook is due on Friday, Feb. 14th.

Science Assigned to Class: 8-5(109C)	Students have been introduced to their science fair projects and given a handout that explains everything they need to do. It is very important that they keep this document for the entire process. I have given them two classes to do some research and decide on what project they are going to do. The first page of the handout was due in class today. If they did not hand it in, it needs to be done for Monday. The next part will be due in two weeks (February 14 <3 ) and the final project will be due two weeks after that (March 1). Student class presentations will happen during the first week or so of March and the school science fair will be held on March 13. The school fair is not mandatory but students get 5 extra marks to participate in it. Also, the quiz on Chapter 5 will be held on February 10.

Science Assigned to Class: 8-5(109C)	Today we did the foldable as outlined on page 131 in the text book. It needs to be finished for homework and it is due on Monday. This will be used in lieu of a quiz for chapter 4, so it must be passed in. The information for the project can be found in the text book and in the notes. Digital copies of the text and the notes for Chapter 4 can be found in the 'Notes and Worksheets' section of my web page - so no excuses! :-) If you don't pass it in on Monday, you will be invited to lunch club on Monday and Tuesday.
